THE SIGN JOURNAL · PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

What to send for a useful first quote.

A clear brief saves the back-and-forth. Collect these details before asking a supplier to price your sign.

Start with the artwork

Send your logo as outlined vector artwork if you have it. Include a readable image for reference and identify any brand colours. Tell the supplier if a font is essential or if the artwork can be adjusted to suit fabrication.

A PNG is useful for understanding the idea. It does not become a fabrication-ready vector just because it is uploaded into a designer. Ask who will prepare the production artwork and whether that work is included.

Show the setting

Add a straight-on photo of the wall and a wider photo of the whole frontage. State whether the sign is indoors, sheltered outdoors or fully exposed. Include the city and the wall material if known.

Record the usable sign area rather than only the letter height you want. Note doors, windows, cladding joints and obstacles. Keep measurements approximate until they have been checked for production.

Describe the build

Specify your preferred lighting: face, halo, both or none. Add the material and finish direction, approximate letter depth and mounting preference. If you are unsure, send two options and ask the supplier to explain the trade-offs.

The studio can export a preview image and a configuration brief. Keep both. The image communicates the look, while the brief records the settings that produced it.

Include the practical questions

State your target opening date, delivery address and whether installation is required. Ask what is included in the quote and what still depends on a site survey. Identify any landlord sign criteria or approvals you already have.

Confirm payment terms, lead-time triggers, delivery responsibilities, warranty coverage and who coordinates the electrical connection. You are asking for a defined scope, not simply the lowest number.

Choose where the enquiry goes

Review the supplier options after completing your design. You decide which business receives your request. This site does not place an order or promise a supplier’s price.

When using the supplier’s own form, attach the exported PNG and specification if automatic transfer is unavailable. Keep a copy of the information you sent.
